I'm worried about 50 Cent, you guys
Remember the wonderful days of 2003? When you couldn't go anywhere without hearing the sweet poetry of "Go shawty, it's yo birthday, we gon' sip Bacardi like it's yo' birthday, you know we dont give a f*ck it's yo' birthday"? When smiling children played with out a care in their hearts in their terribly designed, over-sized G-Unit t-shirts? When all the hit songs were about either murder, money or terrible double entendres? Those were the days and one man ruled then and his name was Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
But alas, this world has changed. Despite following Eminem's winning formula of releasing the exact same album under a different name every few years and expecting people to not notice, 50's most recent album "Before I self Destruct" dissapeared into bargain bins instantly. The feature film he wrote, directed, produced and starred in didn't even make it to direct-to-video.
And now this is happening.
Yes that's right, 50 Cent is lip-syncing on a webcam video with a 15 year old boy. Why is 50 Cent is lip-syncing on a webcam video with a 15 year old boy? How did he get into this 15 year old's room? Have things gotten so bad he had to leave his mansions and move in with him, and due to how he can no longer even afford to pay rent to a 15 year old he now has to appear in webcam lip-syncs with him just to get by? How much does a 15 year old demand for rent? Why is the font appearing to get smaller as I type this? So many questions. And who has the answers? Not 50 Cent. I know in this crazy world people just dont seem to have room in their hearts for songs tilted "I Get Money", "I Still Kill" and "My Gun Go Off" but that doesn't mean give up, Fiddy!!! Heck, you once claimed that if Kanye West's "Graduation" album outsold you you'd quit music, and when it absolutely destroyed you comercially and critically, you kept going! Life presents these struggles and you have to fight through them, not lip-sync with a 15 year old through them!
Anyway there's still hope. When this movie comes out, and wins every single Oscar (including best actor AND actress for 50 Cent), I predict we'll see another wonderful reign from our old friend Curtis. Good luck!
(And as you can tell, I really don't want to be working, hence why I've spent so long writing this...)

Everyone loves Sharkboy!
A draft for my self portrait (which I should get around to posting one day), drawn during a lecture I'm probably gonna wish I'd payed attention once I actually start studying...

Marrooned On Wednesday Island
My 2D project, illustrating a timeline of a Wednesday and Saturday and my emotional response to events on these days. Had to be non-pictorial and fit within a certain size. Probably among my favourite things.

In which I compare running a blog to my inability to care for plants
A whole week since my last post may not seem much, but once my mother left me in charge of her peace lily plant while she was away, and I went a week without watering it and it died. So here I am, watering the blog or some confusing ad-on to a rubbish simile.
ANYWAY, I've been a bit busy for bloggin', what with seven different projects to do at cpit and moving into an awesome flat at the same time. But let me assure you, some fine blogging is to come, much like when my mum returned from her trip, watered the plant and it came back to life, STRONGER THAN EVER (with plant strength I guess).
Also there was apparently a Wednesday at some point this week, so here you go:
This video was an artist model for my concertina book, and now we listen to Cudi in class all the time. I'm scared one day I wont be able to design WITHOUT his sweet rhymes. D:

Wednesday Rap!
Tommy Ill's new single "Robot (featuring a Robot)"
This video is totally rad, and the fact that Mr Ill is releasing an album and touring New Zealand is also totally rad. Plus, this video was released today, which puts me on the cutting edge of music blogging. Or I would be if I didnt still use the term "totally rad".

Overdue (again) wednesday rap!
Good grief! (insert picture of Charlie Brown here) I should just change it to Friday Rap and be done with it.
But I've already written the title, so too late! Anyway here's some mash-up mix tapes I found on one of my new favourite blog sites, Pretty Much Amazing.
First up: Lil Wayne mashed up with the soundtrack to (500) Days Of Summer: (500) Days Of Weezey.
And also: Notorious B.I.G raps over the entire XX album: The Notorious XX..
I wish I were an internet DJ so I could mash up Ol' Dirty Bastard and The Dirty Projectors. Ol' Dirty Projectors writes itself!

Wednesday Rap!
Champagne Champagne
Champagne Champagne
These guys are cool because:
1. Their DJ is Mark Gajadhar, former drummer for The Blood Brothers and Neon Blonde
2. Repetition in band names is always cool
3. They have a song about Molly Ringwald. Sigh...
Anyway, check out their myspace page here, or watch a video of them performing in a taxi here. (What a cool idea, from now on I'm only gonna pay my taxi fare through sweet rhymes!)

Overdue Wednesday Rap!
One of my favourite things is sunny days in winter. Even though it's waaay less warm than in summer, since the sun is much rarer you feel like "Omg I must take full advantage of this beautiful day!" unlike in summer where I commonly open the curtain and scream "Are you still here?? No-one invited you! You're not my real dad!" at the sun before nursing my terrible sunburns*.
Also great about winter is that since summer is happening in America, we get a fresh shipment of America's SUMMER JAMS to make our few sunny days even better. On the subject of SUMMER JAMS, here's Converse's new collaboration song. It's by Kid Cudi (rapper, hence why I can include it), Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend and Best Coast, an artist I havent heard before but will probably hear more of soon.
Check it:
It's so good it doesnt matter it's secretly a shoe ad! A very effective shoe ad, cause after downloading it at converse.com I looked around the website and ended up designing these on the site:
Omg shoes. Lets get some shoes. These guys know what I'm talking about.

"Once I dreamt I tamed a stallion"
Just found this drawing in a cabinet. Drew it back in January after buying my Dad a birthday present. I have no idea what was going through my head when I made it, but I remember having a really good day when I did :)

Holden Caulfield
"That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "Fuck you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "Fuck you." I'm positive, in fact."
P.S Apparently next semester we're learing to draw faces. I think I need that

Wednesday rap!
This is something I ran on my facebook during March, until I realised people probably didnt want the whitest, geekiest guy they know talking about rap all over their newsfeed.
But since no-one reads this, I feel I can officially "rap it up" without annoying anyone too much :D
Anyway, today I recommend Tommy Ill!
One of the only NZ rappers that doesnt make me cringe and the only rapper I've seen live, Mr Ill mixes unlikely samples with clever, self deprecating lyrics about Pokémon, hangovers and kinda ironic sounding call outs to other rappers ("I was speeding down the road, just trying to get back until I heard somebody yelling now "Savage, where the chorus at?").
Check him out at tommyill.com and download the free "Day We Became Models" Ep, cause you know you've always wanted to hear a hip hop mash-up of AC/DC and Cold War Kids.

Sunshine Carousel Nightmare
One of my year 12 compositions, and the first particularly "good" song I've written by myself. Influenced by the Cure, Muse and the Dresden Dolls (although you can hear influence from dance music too), by hope for this track was it would create musical genre known as "fairy rave".
Still waiting for this to happen.

Shameless Posting Of Something I've Made And Am Proud Of: The "03"
The "03"
This was Chickenfist studio's Teen Drama Parody, The "03" (a play on The OC, and the area code for christchurch). Despite our three 48hours films prior to it, I still think this was the best "film" we've made. The original intention was to make a "season"of six youtube episodes, which would expand and carry on the story, focusing on the love triangle between Cameron, Heath and Leo. Alas, despite our best efforts (we did film half of a second episode) this never ended up happening. It's a shame 'cause occasionally the episode ideas enter my head and make me feel feelings.
On a more serious note, look at Kieran dance!!! LOOK AT HIM!!!! :D
